I've been making hot cocoa for as long as I can remember, once I learned that homemade is way better then packets.
This recipe is very nostalgic to me. It started off as the original Hershey's recipe that came on their cocoa powder container.
As a kid, I would toss marshmallows and peppermint Hershey's kisses in my mug. In college, I'd top it off with Peppermint Schnapps. Within the last few years, I've tweaked it to accommodate my sugar and dairy-free diet (my, how times have changed!).
This recipe is sweetened with maple syrup (although you can easily sub with your favorite sweetener) and uses nut milk instead of traditional cows milk.
I hope it warms your belly and your heart!
