-FAQ-

What is Reiki?

Reiki Natural Healing is a Japanese wellness modality dating back approximately one hundred years. It's a system of gentle light touch, meditation, breathwork, and visualization used to clear blockages such as fear, grief, anxiety, and depression. (Blockages can manifest as physical, mental, and emotional ailments.)

Reiki gently dissolves the old accumulated energies, limiting beliefs, and traumas that are harmful to our wellbeing and replaces them with new, updated energies that promote peace and harmony.

What is Meditation?

Meditation is sitting in stillness with an intentional focus such as breath awareness, affirmations, manifestations, or complete openness. Meditation is fittingly referred to as a "practice" because the chaos of life can create barriers in the mind that prevent us from fully experiencing a higher state of consciousness.  During meditation, the mind is awake and active, yet focused on the intention. As the mind begins to enter a state of higher consciousness, the inner world begins to reveal itself through the intuitive senses.

My mind is busy. Can I still meditate?

Yes!  The goal of meditation is NOT to abolish thinking. (Thinking is very helpful in our day-to-day lives!) Rather, the goal of meditation is to relax and surrender into the loving arms of the Universe.

In short, meditation help us to calm down and allow. Allow the mind to be as it is. Allow the heart to be as it is. Allow the body to be as it is. As we meditate, we learn to allow and accept all parts of our being.

When you first begin your meditation journey, you may find it difficult. That's OK! Keep practicing. Over time, you will rewire your brain so that you will feel safe and peaceful in the stillness. You will actually come to enjoy meditation as a welcome, calm oasis in your daily life.

I'm not flexible. Can I practice yoga?

Yes yes! Yoga can be modified for any-BODY. At Ordinary Pioneer, we have various offerings to help you feel safe and confident as you begin your Yoga journey. We offer modifications for postures, and encourage all students to go at their own pace and make the posture their own in a way that feels best!

What do I need to wear?

We encourage you to  dress in a way that feels best to you! For Yoga, we recommend you wear items you can easily move around in. For Reiki, meditation and our group gatherings, you may find loose fitting clothing will be most comfortable. The temperature fluctuates often with the shifting of energies, so layers is also recommended! Please avoid revealing clothing during movement activities.

What are the rules at Ordinary Pioneer?

We have one rule: TO LOVE YOURSELF AND LOVE OTHERS. That's it! This can be interpreted in many ways but we like to think of it as holding sacred space for ourselves and others. We encourage our members to walk into our doors as themselves, free to express as feels best to honor their truth. We also ask our members to receive all beings who join our space as their true selves.  Holding space is a compassionate way of sharing experiences. We do not tolerate judgement or any violation of trust and safety of our members individually and collectively. Ordinary Pioneer is a safe space to experience unity among all beings, recognizing and learning with open minds from the parts of others that also reside within ourselves. Any violation of this simple rule will result in temporary or permanent removal of the violator from group gatherings.

Do you practice religion at Ordinary Pioneer?

We want EVERYONE to feel safe, loved, valued, and heard. As an interfaith organization, we do NOT promote or adhere to the strictures of any one particular religious path. Our aim is to open-mindedly learn, accept, and explore various spiritual and religious traditions with ALL of our brothers and sisters, regardless of creed or worldview. We welcome everybody: atheists, pagans, Christians, Hindus, Muslims, and every tradition that promotes love and compassion is welcome here. While attending a gathering at Ordinary Pioneer you may hear many different words that describe the same loving energy that guides us (i.e. Source, God, Creator, Spirit, Krishna, Jesus, Buddha, etc...). We invite you to not get hung up on the words, but rather feel with your heart the One Reality toward which all these words point.

What is the Gift Economy?

We offer many of our services and gathering through the Gift Economy (no set fee). This allow us to make spiritual healing and wellness accessible to all.
